Personnel Tracking System for Hess

Client: Hess Denmark / Semco Maritime

All personnel are required to wear an individually Identifiable Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) active transponder tag. These Intrinsically Safe (IS) transponder tags are detected by the ATEX certified reader equipment installed on the platform bridge link. Transponder tags are allocated to individuals upon their arrival on the platform.

The bridge mounted Ex certified reader unit is configured with four antennae. This enables the reader unit to detect the presence and direction of travel of the transponder tags worn by platform personnel crossing the bridge. Data is passed to the central server PC via a CAN bus interface for subsequent display on client PC’s over the platform LAN. The data is used to monitor the number of personnel entering the South Arne platform. Upon reaching a predetermined limit, the system informs personnel via a ‘Traffic Light’ system that the maximum POB has been reached. A sounder will also be activated upon this limit.

Two PTS client workstations, one located in the South Arne Heli-Admin and the other on the Drill/Hotel platform display an operator interface. A graphical display shows current POB for both the South Arne platform and the Drill/Hotel. Both PTS workstation are attached to a PTS reader unit. This enables transponders to be allocated to personnel on arrival at the platforms.
