What is S3 CheckPoint™?
Part of our market leading S3 product range, S3 CheckPoint™ is an innovative new product designed for personnel location and tracking, comprising static CheckPoints™ and personnel carried ID tags called PassPorts™.
As well as providing location awareness for personnel, the system can also be used for tracking assets.
The system uses highly reliable, low risk RFID technology proven in use by S3 ID over many years. The accuracy of the system is dependant on the number of CheckPoints™ deployed and the location strategy. On most plants the ability to know in which area (or zone) personnel are located is the overriding functional requirement.
CheckPoint™ has been designed to work almost anywhere, but the product has been specifically designed for use in oil, gas, petrochemical, refining and other chemical industry applications.
It is suitable for large area coverage such as may be required in refineries and gas terminals and will be ATEX certified accordingly for use in hazardous areas (Zone 1) and outdoor conditions (up to IP67).

How will CheckPoint™ be used?
When the system is installed on a plant it will enable the location of each person on the plant to be known, displayed and stored on local and remote workstations.
Users will not have to perform any operation to make the system work, for example swipe a card or hold an RFID tag close to a reader. Users will simply wear a tag which may be fixed to a lanyard or clipped to clothing.
What are the benefits of using CheckPoint™?
Personnel location knowledge increases safety and security by reducing risk.
Further benefits may be realised by using the system to improve operational efficiency, for example by being able to deploy maintenance personnel nearest to a breakdown location.
What features of the new system will make it particularly attractive to users?
The big advantage of the new S3 CheckPoint™ system is the very low installation cost, being just a fraction of the installation cost of other technologies. As the market leader in this field, all S3 ID products are ATEX certified and proven in use and clients can therefore purchase with confidence.
When will it available to purchase?
The S3 CheckPoint™ system will be available to purchase in late 2011. Proof of concept, Beta testing and final production design is scheduled to complete in June 2011. Pricing will be made available and we anticipate shipping systems by late 2011.

System Description
The CheckPoint™ system provides plant-wide personnel location and tracking information.
Each person to be monitored is provided with a PassPort™ which is a battery operated ID tag either carried on a lanyard or clipped directly to clothing.
The plant to be monitored is mapped from drawings and/or on site measurements and a location strategy produced and agreed with the users of the system. The location strategy will ultimately determine the number of and exact locations where CheckPoints™ will be installed throughout the plant to provide the required coverage and user location accuracy.
Each CheckPoint™ reads all persons carrying a PassPort™ within a 10 metre radius using low range, low frequency RF.
Each CheckPoint™ is also a node of a mesh radio network operating at medium range (approx 100 metres) using high frequency RF. The CheckPoints™ may be either battery operated or supplied with local AC mains or LV DC power.
A mesh radio interface node then connects the central monitoring system server to the CheckPoints™ enabling the system software to locate and associate the PassPorts™ and therefore persons to a particular CheckPoint™.
User software will provide both detailed and overview information of all people on the plant in easy to use graphical formats. This data can be accessed externally or linked to proprietary databases such as Vantage and DaWinci.
S3 CheckPoint™ utilises S3 ID patented technology.
